Hello! I'm Viki.

I create joyful embroidered artworks inspired by nature and spirituality. My work is about sharing and celebrating the spiritual connection I experience in relation to the natural world around me. I choose to express this through the contemplative act of hand embroidery.

I believe that over the years our deep connection to nature has been severed, causing detrimental effects to our planet as well as our own health. We are not separate from nature but rather an integral part of it. My art is a response to my own spiritual connection with nature through exploration into the changing shapes and forms of plants during the cycle of the seasons as well as observation of rocks, shells and crystals.

My process always begins with drawing; responding to natural objects through expressive lines and marks using both graphite and coloured pencils, pens and watercolours. These drawings inform my hand embroidery although the development of each embroidered piece is intuitive; I do not start with a pre-conceived idea of how the piece will look when it is finished. Hand embroidery is, by its nature, a slow and contemplative process which enables me to explore each idea through repetitive marks and carefully chosen colours. Each piece is a response to the combined uplifting effects of immersion in nature, spiritual guidance and the creative act of embroidery.
