Mini journals

Today we are going to take a peek inside the mini journals that I made last year whilst I was going through a difficult situation. These little journals helped me to find a way back into making things again as well as helping me to understand and work through how I was feeling at the time. There is a lot of written journalling, in the story journal in particular, that I have chosen not to take pictures of because it still feels too personal to share at the moment.

These journals were the result of a class on the Get Messy art journalling website. I enjoyed learning how to make these little journals and it was useful to have some guidance on how to fill them. Each journal has it’s own theme; Story, Worth and Truth.

Story

I chose to do quite a lot of written journalling in the Story journal along with some collage and little drawings. For me, this was the most cathartic of the journals to make, I was able to write about how I was feeling and make some sense of it.

Worth

I struggled a bit with this journal and in the end decided to create a collage on each page using papers and dried flowers. The pages themselves were made by folding a large sheet of tracing paper and then slipping pieces of vintage paper between the leaves of tracing paper. I would like to re-visit this journal some time or perhaps make another version of it.

Truth

I chose to completely stitch my Truth journal. I used a lot of small scraps of patchwork fabric to create tiny collages which I stuck down and stitched into. I enjoyed making this journal and found it very meditative to work on.
