New Year Planning

Having made a review of the year that has nearly passed, I am starting to plan for the new year that is approaching. I journal about the things that I would like to focus on next year and the things that I would like to achieve. Then I break those things down into all the tasks that I will need to complete in order to achieve them.

I have chosen a couple of things to focus on in 2023; making more art and starting to teach workshops. In my art making I would like to explore the theme of ‘wandering’, which I have started to think about in the last couple of months. I think that there is a lot that I can experiment with and pick apart with this subject and I will be working with this theme for quite some time. I am only just at the beginning and I am excited to continue on the journey and see what comes out of it along the way. I intend to spend the first part of the year digging deep into my art making process and experimenting with drawing and painting, as well as stitch, to find my own ways of expressing myself visually. It will be a period of exploration, play and curiosity. Later in the year, I intend to start developing workshops inspired by my art making discoveries.

The January spread in my planner for 2023

I am going to use a planner to keep track of my time next year and monitor my progress. For 2023, I have set up my own planner in a bullet journal. This way I will have space to add in any notes or ideas that occur to me each week. I have not set it up as a traditional bullet journal, but instead adapted it to my own needs. I have recorded my goals on the first pages so that I can keep referring back to them. Next I have an overview of the entire year across a double page, followed by a similar overview set up for each month. I have some pages put aside to record ideas for blog posts, workshop ideas and future goals. The rest of the journal will be set-up to plan each individual week as it arrives. I will list my tasks for the week at the top and then slot them into the allocated days as appropriate. It is the first time that I have set up my planner in this way so it will be interesting to see which bits are useful and which bits change as the year progresses.
