Inspired by… the sea

View of Freshwater Bay from Tennyson Down, Isle of Wight

At the beginning of the month I spent a couple of weeks on the Isle of Wight with my family. One of the highlights of the holiday was walking along the beach.

Walking along the beach at Compton Bay, Isle of Wight

I live in Buckinghamshire which, whilst home to a great deal of very beautiful countryside, takes a significant drive to get to the coast, so it was a real treat to be able to walk along the beach whilst away. The sea breeze through my hair was both restorative and refreshing and the texture of wet sand beneath my boots was soft and gentle.

Beachcombing joy!

The beach is also a great place for treasure hunting. I picked up some beautiful shells and pebbles whilst beachcombing. I also saw some beautiful driftwood. The sea softens the edges and smooths out the surfaces of its debris, which appeals to me.

Beautiful shapes and lines of driftwood on the beach

Now that I am back home, I plan to draw some of the shells that I picked up on the beach. Hopefully I will be able to include some of them in future artwork.
